K-12 Career Readiness

Career exploration from elementary school through grade 12.

Grades K-5

Our Career Readiness program serving grades K-5 focuses on introducing students to the world of work through fun and imaginative activities. Students can learn basics in culinary arts, cosmetology, healthcare and so much more. Various community leaders speak to students about their role in the community and how each job helps others.

Schools participating in this program are Tallmadge Elementary, Mt. Pleasant Elementary, Medill Elementary, Gorsuch West Elementary, and Tarhe Trails Elementary.

Grades 6-10

Career Readiness for grades 6 – 10 provides an opportunity for students to interact with community leaders and local employers, exploring a wider range of careers. Students explore careers by learning what skills and interests are needed for different jobs and how school subjects relate to real-life work. Activities like Career Days, Worksite Visits and various field trips allow students to interact with employers and make the connection between their interests and possible future careers.

Students in 6th grade take part in Xello Career Assessment, allowing them to connect their interests and skills to future opportunities. Students in 8th grade participate in the 8th grade expo, exposing them to Career Technical Programs before entering high school. This event gives students an opportunity to see first-hand what’s available in Career Tech programs.

Junior High Schools participating in the program are Thomas Ewing Jr. High School and General Sherman Jr. High School.

High school juniors and seniors

High school Juniors and Seniors participating in Fairfield County’s Career Readiness work toward the Ohio Means Jobs Readiness Seal, Career Readiness Endorsement (Seniors Only), and some participate in our pre-apprenticeship programs (Seniors Only). Currently all eight school districts in Fairfield County participate in Fairfield County’s Career Readiness program for high school juniors and seniors.

STEM Career Readiness

STEM Career Readiness is our new program. The STEM Career Navigator helps students pursue STEM or advanced manufacturing careers by supporting their entry into college or technical programs, ensuring they stay enrolled, and guiding them to graduate through clear career pathways aligned with high-demand, well-paying local jobs.
